The area's only Year-Round
Indoor Farmer's Market

Located at 2016 Avenue A in Downtown Sterling, the Twin City Market (“TCM”) began as a project of the Northwest Illinois Ag Coalition and began operations as a farmers’ market in July 2005 after the generous contribution of a location and funding from the City of Sterling, Illinois. Located inside the historic Twin City Produce Co. building at 106 Avenue A in downtown Sterling, the TCM is open year round and also features a licensed commercial kitchen.

The Market is open weekly on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. until Noon.   Hosting 20+ year-round vendors and even more seasonal vendors, offerings include locally raised beef, pork, free range chicken and eggs; homegrown produce; organic herbs; honey, jams, jellies & sauces; a wide variety of baked goods including pies, breads, cookies and cakes; locally made soaps & candles; knitted items; local photography; jewelry; crafts; and artwork. Gift certificates are available.

The Twin City Market strives to provide year-round source of freshly grown produce and locally raised meat, poultry and eggs, while also educating the community on the advantages and benefits of local agriculture. The market helps foster an economic environment that contributes to the financial success of the local business entities that provide our community with their locally grown, raised or crafted products.

In 2016 the Market expanded to include a mid-week market on Tuesday evenings during the summer months, held outdoors at the Grandon Civic Center in Central Memorial Park in Downtown Sterling.  The mid-week market will continue to return each summer during peak produce season.

Sterling Main Street, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, whose mission is the development and promotion of downtown Sterling opened the Sterling Welcome Center & Gallery in downtown Sterling on November 22, 2014.  The purpose of the Center is to meet an increasing demand for a venue at which local artists may display and sell their works on an ongoing basis, as well as serve a tourism function for the City of Sterling, promoting the history, resources and amenities of the City of Sterling, and the community as a whole.  The facility also serves as a venue where local not-for-profit organizations who have locally produced items unique to their organization may offer such items for sale (i.e. publications by the Sterling-Rock Falls Historical Society, Mural Society, etc.).

Area artists and non-profits who would be interested in becoming a vendor at the Gallery are invited to submit an application at any time.  Contact Sterling Main Street at 815.626.8610 or email for additional information.

The Mural society

20 Years….seems like forever, yet not so long ago, that blank canvases of brick came to life to tell the story of Sterling, Illinois – its earliest settlers, scenes from its past, important moments in history that make Sterling the great community it is today.

Now under the umbrella of Sterling Main Street, the Sterling Mural Society marked a significant milestone in 2015 – 20 years of murals decorating our downtown.  A 20th Mural, "Lincoln in Sterling," was installed to mark the occasion.

Plans are being developed to address the ongoing maintenance needs of the murals in order to preserve them for generations to come, and new marketing materials are being developed to promote the murals.

Fundraising activities are ongoing for a maintenance fund. Donations to the Sterling Mural Society may be mailed in care of Sterling Main Street, P.O. Box 261, Sterling, Illinois.   For more information please contact Sterling Main Street at 815-626-8610.

In the meantime, please EXPLORE the rich history of Sterling through our murals....
