Our December 6, 2019 Timeline of Activities
5:00 PM – Festivities begin with businesses open late throughout the downtown and music fills the streets courtesy of 3D Sound; Be sure to check out Dale Park for our Sights & Sounds Selfie Stations featuring a giant family photo frame and a sea of holiday inflatables.
5:00 PM – COOKIE WALK; CHILI SUPPER; CRAFT VENDORS AND MORE AT THE BIG RED CHURCH
- Christ Lutheran School Cookie Walk 2019 – An assortment of Christmas Cookies and Treats will be available for purchase at the Big Red Church from 5 PM until Sold Out!
5:30 PM – STERLING-ROCK FALLS FAMILY YMCA SANTA DASH
Join us for our first annual Santa Dash for children ages 3-15. The dash is a fun run of 1 block (Grummert’s Hardware to the Sterling Theater). This is a FREE event, but onsite sign up is required prior to the dash. Check in begins at 5 PM on the parking lot by Papa Murphy’s/Edward Jones at the corner of Locust & E. 5th Street. The Dash begins at 5:30 PM for 4 age categories: 3-5, 6-8, 9-11, 12-5. Prizes will be awarded in each category. See FLIER for additional detail.
6:00 PM – TREE LIGHTING
Watch as Santa arrives and we have the official tree lighting at the Library Plaza Christmas Tree, and watch as the theater lights change over for the holidays! Carolers from Sterling’s Washington School will perform
6:00-8:00 – SANTA’S WORKSHOP Located on 4th Street between 1st Avenue & Locust (Alongside the Sterling Theater)
• Area non-profits and service groups will provide a wide variety of children’s activities and games. FREE!
• Visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus (Santa arrives at 6:15 PM, immediately following the tree lighting)
6:00-8:00 – HORSE & WAGON RIDES
Enjoy FREE horse & wagon rides around the downtown. Loading/Unloading will take place in the municipal parking lot behind Grummert’s Hardware.
8:00 PM – FIREWORKS
Turn your eyes to the sky as we light them up with a Holiday Fireworks Display to end the evening.

Big Red Church

Join us for this FREE annual Community Concert held on the Thursday after Thanksgiving at 7:00 PM at the Big Red Church (First Congregational) at the corner of 2nd Avenue & 4th Street in Downtown Sterling.
This free concert features performances by individuals, small groups, churches and organizations from throughout the community. Enjoy refreshments after the program.

This Holiday Tradition at the Sterling Theater continues! Come dressed in your craziest holiday best for a special showing of “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”

December 6, 7 & 8 | Various Times
Make a trip through history and enjoying our holiday decorations a part of your Christmas tradition! The Sterling High School Madrigals will perform Saturday evening. Adults are $5, seniors are $4, 12 & under are free. We have beautiful Dillon Home ornaments for sale that make wonderful gifts!
We will also have a large collection of Northwestern Steel & Wire photos available for people to look through on the rear porch! The photographs are a must-see for anyone retired from the mill or interested in the history.
There is also a Christmas Past Open House at the Sterling-Rock Falls Historical Society museum, which is located in the carriage house on the grounds. They will have free refreshments.
